Without your deep compassion for the Athens area and beyond, we would not be able to expand our services or enhance experiences for our patients. Thank you for supporting Piedmont Athens Regional and your community!
Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center
Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center is a 427-bed non-profit hospital and regional referral center serving 17 counties in Athens and northeast Georgia. We offer a Level 2 Trauma Center and Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, urgent care centers, and an extensive network of respected physicians, surgeons and specialists.
History
On February 20, 1919, Drs. Goss, Holliday, Hunnicutt and Reynolds met to discuss the need for a community hospital in Athens-Clarke County. After securing the necessary funding in 1921, a 100-bed facility was opened, featuring three medical floors, two operating rooms, a delivery room and a 24-member medical staff. Over the past 100 years, Piedmont Athens Regional has grown to serve 17 counties in northeast Georgia and provides jobs for more than 3,300 employees. What started as a small local hospital has changed, but our original mission to serve our community and make a positive difference has stayed the same.
Piedmont Foundations
Piedmont Healthcare is a federally certified 501(c)3 nonprofit community hospital system. As a nonprofit, gifts are a vital part of supporting our mission, and directly benefit the health and wellness of patients in our community. Along with Athens, Piedmont has foundations in Atlanta and Columbus.
Campaign
Piedmont Athens Regional Foundation’s Board of Directors has identified the Community Care Clinic, Magill-Miller Advanced Heart Failure Clinic, and the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support as the priority areas in our current campaign. A donation to these key programs supports our patients, employees, and community in many ways. Philanthropy expands and improves the services and programs we provide to the community.
Key Programs
Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center’s $194 million renovation and expansion project kicked off in October 2018 and was completed in the Summer of 2022. The renovation included updating the 262,400+ square feet of existing space and replacing the 228,600+ square feet of space. The new tower has improved wayfinding for our visitors and includes inpatient and outpatient departments designed to enhance the patient experience.
