Employee Giving at Piedmont Athens Regional

Real Change Lives Here.

Each day, employees of Piedmont Athens Regional (PAR) care for the health and wellness of our community. These employees are nurses at the bedside, therapists helping people learn to walk again, cooks preparing meals, administrators planning for the future, or office personnel pushing through the details.

Caring for our patients and their families is part of a PAR employee’s everyday routine. And when asked to give back to provide an additional level of support, you do – generously and passionately. Through Piedmont’s employee giving program, Count Me In | GIFT, PAR employee contributions make a positive difference in every life we touch.

Love to work here, love to give here.

PAR needs our help now, more than ever, as we continue to grow in order to meet our patients’ needs. As a non-profit health care system, PAR relies on the generosity of employee donors to make many of our programs possible. Each PAR patient, employee and visitor is touched by our employee donors whose support makes it possible to purchase new equipment, improve facilities, expand research and provide wellness and support programs.

A Positive Difference

Game-changing impact: making a positive difference in every life we touch

Count Me In | GIFT contributions support Piedmont Athens Regional initiatives that impact patient care and improve the community’s access to resources, support services and treatment (e.g., Nurse Extern Program, Community Health Education & Awareness and Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support).

In addition to raising money to support strategic initiatives, Count Me In | GIFT proceeds fund employee improvement ideas. Count Me In | GIFT Grants are awards made to benefit Piedmont Athens Regional’s patients, visitors and employees. Piedmont Athens Regional departments may apply for a grant to fund a program or non-capital equipment purchase that cannot be funded by traditional means or is not included in their operating budget.

  • Count Me In | GIFT Grants awarded more than $15,000 in FY22 to improvement ideas throughout PAR.
  • Count Me In | GIFT Grants awarded nearly $30,000 in FY23 supporting 11 departments.

Lastly, Count Me In | GIFT contributions support PAR’s Employee Disaster Relief Fund, which provides confidential, immediate short-term, financial relief to employees experiencing extraordinary financial hardship related to an unexpected event.

  • In FY22, Count Me In | GIFT employee donors provided more than $25,000 in financial aid to colleagues in need.

GIFT History

In 1985, Athens Regional Health Services (ARHS) was in dire need of new furnishings for family waiting rooms. Going above and beyond their daily duties, ARHS employees came together to fulfill the need, creating an employee giving program named G.I.F.T. (Getting Involved For Tomorrow) and securing the updated furniture. Since then, employee donors have contributed to GIFT to enhance our patient, visitor and employee experience. Together, employee donors have given more than $5 million to benefit health and wellness in our community.

Because of employee generosity, GIFT has made many things possible:

  • Wellness Porch in Main Tower (2021)
  • Clay Community Care Clinic Medication Assistance & Magill-Miller Advanced Heart Failure Clinic (2019 – 2020)
  • Child Development Center (2016 – 2017)
  • Pediatrics Renewal (2015 – 2016), NICU Expansion (2012 -2014)
  • Cancer Care Services & Griffin-DuBose Healing Lodge (2006-2009)
  • Mobile Mammography Unit (2003)
  • Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support (1996-2000)
  • The Guest House (1995)
  • Athens Regional ambulance (1994)

In 2022, Piedmont’s Count Me In employee giving campaign and PAR’s very own GIFT program joined forces to continue to meet our community’s demand for innovative care. Count Me In donations restricted to GIFT will continue to provide local departmental grants, employee emergency disaster relief and supports major hospital projects in PAR’s service area. Together, we continue to add an additional level of excellence to the amazing care provided at PAR.
